Calvey Signs "No Climate Tax" Pledge

Kevin Calvey - Monday, November 30, 2009

Oklahoma City (November 30, 2009) - Kevin Calvey, candidate for Congress in Oklahoma’s Fifth Congressional District, today signed the “No Climate Tax” pledge. By signing the pledge, Calvey is committing that he will oppose any legislation relating to climate change that includes “a net increase in government revenue.”

Recently, a large volume of e-mails were revealed among scientists who are promoting massive reductions in carbon emissions that show a disturbing pattern of selective reporting of scientific findings and aggressive attempts to silence critics within the scientific community.  Calvey said the revelation of these controversial e-mails have heightened his skepticism about the basis for many global warming claims.

“Claims about the causes of global warming have rightfully come under greater scrutiny,” said Calvey. “It would be totally irresponsible for Congress to approve a massive job-killing tax increase to help address a problem whose origins and severity are in such great question.”

Calvey also commended Oklahoma’s Senior Senator, Jim Inhofe, for his work over the years in bringing to light many of the spurious claims used by the global warming advocates that have now been debunked.

“Senator Inhofe has done much to expose the pseudo-science behind the global warming movement,” said Calvey.  “He has insisted that any claims of global warming be supported by sound science—something the liberals have not been able to do. Senator Inhofe should be commended for his important work on this issue.”

The “No Climate Tax” pledge is sponsored by Americans for Prosperity. Full text of the pledge, along with a list of those who have signed it, can be found at www.noclimatetax.com.
