Calvey Blasts Obama Budget Proposal

Kevin Calvey - Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Oklahoma City (February 2, 2010) - Republican Congressional Candidate Kevin Calvey, seeking Oklahoma’s Fifth District Congressional seat, today commented on President Obama’s budget proposal.

“The budget proposal presented to Congress yesterday by President Obama is more of the same—more failed ‘stimulus’ spending, more irresponsible deficit spending, more tax burden, and more national debt for future generations to pay off,” said Calvey. “Apparently the President hasn’t quite grasped the infamous definition of insanity—doing the same thing over and over again, yet expecting a different result.”

Calvey noted the President’s own budget projections show the deficit reaching $1.6 trillion, an historic level of red ink. Meanwhile, overall spending levels reach a new record high of $3.8 trillion.

“A deficit of $1.6 trillion is the most outrageous example of fiscal irresponsibility this nation has ever seen,” said Calvey.  “Even though President Obama has recently been paying lip service to deficit reduction, his proposals are weak attempts at constrained spending based on flimsy financial assumptions. President Obama seems to be placing his hopes of future deficit reduction on an improving economy, when he should be acting now to reduce the deficit by ending so-called ‘stimulus’ spending and cutting other wasteful, ineffective spending programs.”

Calvey also mentioned the President’s continued reliance on tax increases to generate more revenue for politicians to spend.

“To top it all off, the President is proposing roughly $2 trillion in new taxes through fiscal year 2020,” said Calvey.  “To be sure, tax increases are never good public policy; but to increase taxes in such tough economic times, when families are literally struggling to make their mortgage payments, is poor fiscal policy for America, and very bad news for families.”
