Sheriff Richard Mack Endorses Kevin Calvey for Congress
Calvey Comments on Obama's Health Care Speech
“The president’s speech on Wednesday has made it apparent that the administration plans to ram through its bloated healthcare package without Republican input,” Calvey said. “The healthcare summit last week was nothing but political theater and now the president is directly pressuring his liberal allies in Congress to pass this flawed bill as soon as possible.
“Time and time again conservatives have asked the administration to adopt cost cutting measures like real lawsuit reform, increased competition and choice for patients, and reforms aimed at cutting waste and fraud out of Medicare and Medicaid. The President’s plan will do nothing to address these problems and will instead create more bureaucracy with fewer choices for patients.
“If Democratic leaders were serious about reform they would throw out the current bill, which was created in backroom meetings and filled with special incentives for their own Senators, and adopt a model closer to Sen. Coburn’s. Dr. Coburn has worked tirelessly to craft a commonsense bill that roots out fraud and waste in existing government programs, enacts real lawsuit reform to protect doctors, and lowers costs by increasing competition among insurance providers.

Calvey Signs Mt. Vernon Statement
“The United States Constitution was crafted in a way that narrowly defined the federal government’s authority, but the politicians in Washington, D.C., have virtually ignored that fact,” said Calvey. “Over the years, politicians have taken more and more power from the states, aided by activist judges who wrongly consider our Constitution to be a ‘living document.’
“I signed the Mt. Vernon Statement today because I believe America desperately needs to return to the basic principles outlined by our Founding Fathers. I hope others here in Oklahoma’s Fifth Congressional District will join me in signing the statement, so together we can help restore Constitutional principles to our federal government.”
The Mt. Vernon Statement is a defining statement of conservative beliefs, values and principles penned by a broad coalition of conservative leaders, including former Attorney General Ed Meese from the Reagan Administration. The document begins with a simple statement: “We recommit ourselves to the ideas of the American Founding.” The document then goes on to elaborate on the concept of “Constitutional conservatism” and what how that relates to the founding principles of America. Calvey Pledges to Donate Any Pay Increases
(R-Oklahoma City) today pledges to vote against any and all Congressional pay increases, and to donate to veterans' and servicemen's groups any pay increases that are enacted.
“Congress should not increase its pay," said Calvey. "I will donate any pay increases to organizations that serve our military personnel and veterans, such as the VFW, American Legion, Red Cross, USO, Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), Disabled Veterans of America (DAV), Blue Star Mothers, and The Hugs Project. As an Iraq War veteran, and as the DAV's Legislator of the Year in 2005, I would rather those organizations get the benefit of any pay increases."

Calvey Unveils Campaign's First TV & Radio Ads
Oklahoma City (February 15, 2010) - Republican Congressional Candidate Kevin Calvey announced today that his campaign would be the first of the season in Oklahoma to begin running television and radio advertisements to deliver his conservative message to voters.
“We’ve been working very hard for many months now bringing our message of limited government, personal freedom, and national security directly to the voters of Oklahoma’s Fifth District,” said Calvey. “Now I’m pleased that we have the ability to deliver my conservative message to all the voters who I might not be able to personally contact.”
In the TV ad, titled “Trouble,” Calvey explains that he is running for Congress “because our country is in trouble.” Calvey sums up for voters the kind of Congressman he will be: “I’ll fight against massive spending, bailouts, and government run health care, and I’ll stand strong for America’s freedoms.”

A central theme of the advertisements is Calvey’s service to our country, and his conservative record as a former lawmaker from Del City, Oklahoma.
Calvey deployed to Iraq with the Army National Guard in 2007, where his mission was to prosecute terrorists in the Iraqi judicial system. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service.
In the state legislature, Calvey fought against wasteful spending, and authored the state’s largest tax cut, a measure that saved taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
As of December 31, 2009, the Calvey for Congress campaign had raised $607,649.63 dollars, and retained $527,986.21 dollars in cash on hand. Those amounts were far in excess of any other candidate in the Fifth District race.

Calvey Comments on Cloud’s Departure
"I am saddened to hear of my friend Jeff Cloud's health issues. I will keep Jeff and his family in my prayers as he undergoes medical treatment. Jeff is a respected public servant, whom I personally like a great deal. Although we were competitors for a brief time, Jeff and I have been friends for several years, and I wish him all the best."
Calvey Blasts Obama Budget Proposal
Oklahoma City (February 2, 2010) - Republican Congressional Candidate Kevin Calvey, seeking Oklahoma’s Fifth District Congressional seat, today commented on President Obama’s budget proposal.
“The budget proposal presented to Congress yesterday by President Obama is more of the same—more failed ‘stimulus’ spending, more irresponsible deficit spending, more tax burden, and more national debt for future generations to pay off,” said Calvey. “Apparently the President hasn’t quite grasped the infamous definition of insanity—doing the same thing over and over again, yet expecting a different result.”
Calvey noted the President’s own budget projections show the deficit reaching $1.6 trillion, an historic level of red ink. Meanwhile, overall spending levels reach a new record high of $3.8 trillion.
“A deficit of $1.6 trillion is the most outrageous example of fiscal irresponsibility this nation has ever seen,” said Calvey. “Even though President Obama has recently been paying lip service to deficit reduction, his proposals are weak attempts at constrained spending based on flimsy financial assumptions. President Obama seems to be placing his hopes of future deficit reduction on an improving economy, when he should be acting now to reduce the deficit by ending so-called ‘stimulus’ spending and cutting other wasteful, ineffective spending programs.”
Calvey also mentioned the President’s continued reliance on tax increases to generate more revenue for politicians to spend.
“To top it all off, the President is proposing roughly $2 trillion in new taxes through fiscal year 2020,” said Calvey. “To be sure, tax increases are never good public policy; but to increase taxes in such tough economic times, when families are literally struggling to make their mortgage payments, is poor fiscal policy for America, and very bad news for families.”

Calvey Extends Lead in Campaign Cash-on-Hand in Latest Election Filings
Oklahoma City (February 1, 2010) - In the latest filings with the Federal Elections Commission, Republican candidate Kevin Calvey extended his lead in total receipts, and has more cash available to spend than any other candidate.
Calvey showed total receipts of $188,205 for the quarter ending December 31, 2009. Total receipts for the campaign stand at $607,649.63. That figure includes $200,000 in loans from the candidate.
In the most critical measurement of a campaign’s financial viability, Calvey again leads the field with $527,986.21 in available cash-on-hand. The next-closest candidate reports only $368,886.53 in available cash-on-hand.
“I continue to be humbled by the generous support my campaign has received,” said Calvey. “I’ve received donations from Americans of all walks of life. The one thing they all have in common is that they support my mission to take our country back from the liberal special interests that are increasing our national debt and trying to socialize our healthcare system.”

Calvey Says Spending Freeze Not Enough- Cuts Needed
Oklahoma City (January 26, 2010) - Fifth District Congressional candidate Kevin Calvey (R-Oklahoma City) today dismissed President Obama’s announced plan to “freeze” discretionary spending as “weak, insincere, and not good enough.”
“With the recent announcement that Congress will raise the debt ceiling by 1,900,000,000,000 to 14.3 trillion, a mere freeze on that 17% of the budget which constitutes discretionary spending will have little effect,” said Calvey. “Instead, we need real cuts in the budget, like ending the TARP bailout and stopping 'stimulus' spending, either of which would save the taxpayers more money than President Obama's proposed 'freeze.' And we need to end costly pork-barrel earmarks once and for all.”
Calvey noted that Congress recently increased discretionary spending by 28%.
“For President Obama to urge merely a freeze in discretionary spending after proposing the massive spending increase in his now-jeopardized government takeover of health care is like an alcoholic promising in the future to stop after two drinks,” said Calvey. “It is not likely that Obama is sincere in his desire to curb federal spending, and this measure won’t accomplish any meaningful spending reductions anyway.”
Calvey further noted that while President Obama and the current Democrat majority in Congress deserves the bulk of the blame for the massive spending increases, establishment Republicans are not blameless, either.
“The recent election in Massachusetts ought to be a wake-up call to both parties: STOP INCREASING FEDERAL SPENDING. It is simply immoral to heap this debt on our children and grandchildren, and it is immoral to inflate the currency and risk people’s savings in order to pay for massive government spending,” said Calvey.
